2. From Frances Szabo Spagnoletti's e-mail: 5/13/05, Alois and Anna were sweethearts in Bohemia. It was planned that they would marry in the US. Alois emigrated first in 1874 or 1875 and went directly to Wichita, Ks where he worked in a butcher shop. Wichita was on the Chisolm Trail and lots of cattle went through there. Anna arrived to the US in May of 1877 and first went to visit relatives in MN and then traveled to Wichita to marry Alois. As she understands the story, they went to the priest in Wichita, he said they had to wait so "marriage banns" could be called. Anna had no place to stay. Consequently, they were married in Probate Court..

Earl Russell Spicer was born 18 February 1879 in Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa. Earl briefly attended Union College, in Lincoln, Nebraska. His date of entry was 18 September, 1901. By the 28th of March 1902 Earl was in Pitkin, Gunnison County, Colorado. He probably went there because of publicity about a secondary boom which occurred at some mines in the Pitkin area. During the time he was there, he drove a team and wagon hauling supplies to the mines. He thought working inside the mines was too dangerous. After he had been there, maybe for several years he moved to Oklahoma where he met the lady who became his wife. He married Anna Dusek on 22 December 1909 at Chickasha, Grady County, Oklahoma.
Ann was the daughter of Alois and Anna Betlach Dusek. Alois was born in 1851 in Bohemia (Czechoslovakia) near the town of Chrudim. Anna Betlach was born in 1853 in the same area of Bohemia as her husband. They both immigrated, at different times in the late 1870's and were married in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas on 15 July 1877.
Earl and Anna Spicer were living near Minco, Grady County, Oklahoma when their first son, Ralph, was born. They moved to Dundee, Yamhill County, Oregon prior to 1914. Their second son Alois, was born in Oregon. Earl was first employed in a saw mill and later in the plum orchards. Anna boarded a dozen families during the day but did not have any lodgers. When work in the orchards dwindled, Earl joined his parents who had a homestead in Quay County, New Mexico. Anna took her two sons on the train to Oklahoma. She stayed with her parents until Earl had built a shelter on the New Mexico claim. Another son and a daughter were born in New Mexico.
In 1919 they sold the 120 acres and came to Sawyer in Pratt County, Kansas where Earl's brother, Zoe, and his family lived. Anna and the four children came on the train to Pratt, Kansas and Earl drove a team and wagon from new Mexico. The trip took about three weeks. Earl worked on the way and became ill with the flu. After living in Sawyer for several years, Earl and Anna moved to a farm on North West Street, Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. In 1950 Earl and Anna moved to a farm southeast of Douglas in Butler County, Kansas. In 1965 they sold that farm and moved to Wichita. Earl died 22 December 1971, on their 60th wedding anniversary. Anna died 9 November 1985. Both Earl and Anna are buried in Seltzer Cemetery, Butler County, Kansas
