A description of Frank: Frank was in the Merchant Marine. He was a Lather and a Puppeteer, carving his own puppets. He spoke several languages and wrote scripts and did all the speaking parts himself for the puppet shows he would put on in the Bohemian Flats Circuit. He was 5' 91/4" tall with dark, curly hair and dark eyes. ^^He returned to Minneapolis in 1888 (approx) and wanted a divorce from Jenny. After that, Jenny is listed in the city directories as "widow". Frank ended up in Kansas and married Mary Preyer. I suspect that he married a Theresa Smolik in Illinois before his marriage to Mary Preyer. I have a marriage record for this, and he possibly used his sons name, Frederic to obtain the license. I'm not sure he was divorced from Jenny at this time. She was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Leoti, the only child of Robert "Sumner" and Emma Sanderson Garnes. She loved school and music, studied hard and was named valedictorian of the 1939 graduating class of Wichita County High School in Leoti. After graduation, she worked as a switchboard operator in Leoti until her marriage to Otto Betlack in December 1939 in Cimarron. They made their home in Leoti for all of their married life except for a few years on an Oregon mink ranch. He died Nov. 20, 1985, in Leoti. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Jess Betlack.
A homemaker, Mrs. Betlack actively supported her children in their school and sports activities and was an accompanist to many community vocal music groups in the Wichita County area. She had taken piano lessons from an early age and continued to play throughout her life, serving as the organist and secretary at the United Methodist Church in Leoti for more than 35 years, and also playing for weddings, funerals and other special activities throughout the community. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge, both at Leoti, enjoyed playing bridge, dancing, having coffee with her friends, and her 80th birthday celebration, which included a reception in Leoti with family and friends and a trip to Hawaii, where she realized a dream of riding in a helicopter.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Lindsley of Leawood; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
