VINCENT BEZDICEK (1888), a farmer of Hunter township, was born in Bohemia
January 12, 1884, the son of Frank and Francika (Bezdicek) Bezdicek. When
an infant he came to America with his parents, lived with them a short
time in Nebraska and in Lyon county, Iowa, and then in 1888 came with the family to Jackson county.
Vincent received his education in Jackson county and was brought upon his
father's farm. After his mother's death, which occurred in 1903, the home
farm - the northwest quarter of section 13 - became the property of the
children. Vincent has been farming the place on his own account since
1907. He has been director of school district No. 15 for the past two
years. He is a member of the Catholic church of Jackson and of the Catholic Western Union.
Mr. Bezdicek was married at Jackson September 17, 1907, to Annie Dvorak.
She was born in Jackson county August 14, 1889, the daughter of the late
Frank Dvorak, an early settler. Her father died in 1903; her mother lives
in Hunter township. One child has been born to Mr. and Mrs. Bezdicek, Theresa, born April 11,
1908.

He attended country school in District #65. On June 29, 1948, he was united in marriage to Ann Clare Censky at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. After marriage, they farmed in Des Moines Township until they moved into Jackson in September 1984. He was a farmer through and through; even combining corn up to the time he was 90. Combining corn was his favorite part of farming.Vincent was a lifelong member of Church of the Good Shepherd, formerly known as St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. In the fall, he had helped his son, John, for 16 years selling fruit and vegetables, first at the Big Cone for three years and then at the Log Cabin for 13 years. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends that stopped by. He loved to give sentimental birthday cards and Valentines Day chocolates to his wife, Ann. As a boy, he saved his money to spend for his first instrument, a button accordion. He was very musically inclined and he taught himself how to play piano and accordion. He started playing with his father in the Pavelko Band and played at dancehalls, for weddings and other special occasions. He continued to play throughout his whole life with family and friends at the nursing home, the Jackson County Fair, and the Senior Citizens Center. He took great pride in playing for and with his grandchildren. Vince loved farming, music, flowers, and was extremely proud of all his grandchildren and his great-grandson.Vincent is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ann of Jackson; daughter, Mary (David) Meinert of Redwood Falls; three sons, John Bezdicek, Vincent (Karen) Bezdicek and Ronald (Mary) Bezdicek, all of Jackson; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, Lawrance Bezdicek of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.Vincent was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diane Rose Fritz; three sisters, Theresa Whisney, Sister M. ROCHESTER, Minn. Sister Consolata Bezdicek, 94, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, who served in the nursing profession, died Aug. 16, 2004, at Assisi Heights, Rochester.
She was born Rose Rita Bezdicek on Aug. 8, 1910, in Jackson, Minn. Sister Consolata entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1928 from St. Wenceslaus Parish. She made profession vows in 1930 and began her nurses training at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester and received her RN degree. She ministered at St. Marys Hospital, St. Anne Hospice, Winona, and Assisi Heights Health Care Center. From 1975 until 1986, she was a receptionist and housekeeping assistant at Tau Center, Winona. In 1986, she returned to St. Marys Hospital as a patient visitor and then as a volunteer until she retired to Assisi Heights in 1996. She celebrated her diamond jubilee in 1990.
Sister Consolata is survived by her Franciscan Community and three brothers, Vincent, Lawrence and Alphonse Bezdicek, all of Jackson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, Assisi Heights. Friends may call at Assisi Heights at the wake service at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, and also until the time of service Thursday.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Alphonse Bezdicek was held Saturday morning, March 3, 2007, at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson, Minn., with Father Peter Schuster officiating. Interment was at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Jackson. Alphonse passed away at the Jackson Good Samaritan Center on February 24, 2007.
Casket bearers were Don Whisney, Mark Whisney, Gary Whisney, Duane Whisney, John Bezdicek and Ron Bezdicek. David and Theresa Krueger were gift bearers. Bill Roder was usher. Barb Bluem was organist and Cissa Tusa was soloist. Osterberg Funeral Service handled the funeral arrangements.
Alphonse Louis Bezdicek was born March 22, 1916, in Hunter Township, Jackson County, Minn., the son of Vincent H. and Anna R. (Dvorak) Bezdicek. As a youth, he attended and graduated from District 65 in Jackson County. He bacame a resident of the Jackson Good Samaritan Center on Jan. 21, 1987.
Alphonse was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson. Alphonse lived a simple life. He loved to watch the birds, the glowers grow and reading newspapers.
Alphonse is survived by two brothers, Lawrence S. Bezdicek and Vincent J. Bezdicek and his wife, Ann, all of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Betty Bezdicek, 95, of Fairmont, MN, will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow the service in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lakefield.
Visitation will be Friday, September 18, 2009, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Lakeview Funeral Home, Fairmont. Visitation will continue two hours prior to the time of service at 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Betty passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at the Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont.
Elizabeth (Pavelko) Bezdicek was born on July 21, 1914, in Minneota Township, near Lakefield, the daughter of John and Mary (Cholick) Pavelko. As a young girl, Betty attended school in Lakefield and later graduated from Lakefield High School.
On September 23, 1937, Betty was united in marriage to Emanuel Bezdicek at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lakefield. Together the couple made their home on a farm in Hunter Township in Jackson County, and were blessed with nine children. Betty worked as a nurses aid for 15 years at Colonial Manor in Lakefield. Betty and Emanuel celebrated 62 years on the farm before Emanuel passed away in 1985. In 1999, Betty moved off the farm to Fairmont to be closer to family.
Betty treasured time spent with her immediate and extended family. She especially enjoyed cooking for her entire family and hosting large get-togethers on the farm. In her spare time, she enjoyed planting and tending to her garden, trees, bushes and flowers. Betty also loved to dance, especially to polka music. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lakefield where she served on the Circle Group and later attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Her zest for life will be greatly missed by those that loved her and called her friend.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, David Bezdicek and wife, Trish of Pullman, WA, Greg Bezdicek and wife, Elaine of Sequim, WA, John Bezdicek and fiancee Elaine of Surprise, AZ, Jim Bezdicek and wife, Diane of Jackson, Matt Bezdicek and wife, Pennie of Windom, Sharon Madsen and husband, Marv of Truman, Eileen Hady and husband, Brad of Fairmont, and June Sorensen and husband, Russ of Fairmont; thirty-three grandchildren; thirty-nine great grandchildren; one greatgreat-grandchild; a sister, Ann Cross of Jackson, two brothers, Joe Pavelko of Lakefield, and Ken Pavelko of Lakefield; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1938 and later graduated from Mankato Business College. After her education, she worked for the Jackson County Extension Office. She was united in marriage to Francis Theodore Mosley on May 11, 1945 in Seattle, Washington while Francis was on leave from the US Navy. After marriage, they lived in Lakefield, where she raised her 5 children. She returned as secretary for the Jackson County Extension Office and retired after 26 years of service. Francis passed away on December 23, 1980. She continued to make her home in Lakefield. In April 2008, she moved to the Sogge Good Samaritan Center in Windom, where she passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 23 days.
Toodie was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where she had been an active member. She had been a charter member of the Valley View Golf Course. She enjoyed playing golf, bowling, dancing, doing crossword puzzles, and card playing. She enjoyed crocheting and was an avid reader.
Toodie is survived by her children, Dianne (Alan) Beens of Windom, Dr. Fred (Jalane) Mosley of Grand Junction, Colorado, Patrice (Brian) McClafferty of Dover, Delaware and Paul Mosley and his partner, Jim Scherbarth of Burnsville, Minnesota, 6 grand children and 4 great-grand children, a brother, Milton Bezdicek of Franklin, North Carolina and 1 sister, Verona Hartneck of White Bear Lake, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Rev. Richard Colletti and Rev. Francis Kunz officiating. Frank was born May 4, 1934 in Jackson. He was the son of Thomas and Lillian (Macek) Pribyl. Frank was a 1952 graduate of Jackson High School and attended Mankato State College. He was united in marriage to Mary Alice Jacoby on August 5, 1961 in Springfield. They resided in Jackson, Spirit Lake, IA, and have been in the Mankato area since 1966. Frank was employed by Minnegasco for 25 years as a sales and marketing representative retiring in 1996. He had been working part-time at Don's Hobby for the past ten years. Frank was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato where he was an usher and with the Knights of Columbus. He was a member and past president of the Key City Bald Eagles and served in the National Guard for 18 years. Frank enjoyed flying airplanes when he was younger, building radio controlled airplanes, hunting, fishing, golfing, boating, WWII history, and attending his grandchildren's events.
Frank is survived by his wife, Mary of North Mankato; two daughters, Nancy (John) Kaplan of Elysian and Teresa (Bill) Lorimer of Andover; six grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Nicholas, and Jacqueline Kaplan, Marcus and Alec Lorimer; one sister, Mary Ann (Eldon) Williams of Jackson; three brothers, Thomas Pribyl Jr., David (Nancy) Pribyl, and Ben Pribyl all of Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Susan Pribyl of Jackson and Dorothy (Cliff) Edstrom of Pine Island; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Good Shepherd, with Father Peter Schuster and Father Charles Quinn officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial for Laurence J. Whisney took place at Church of the Good Shepherd on Thursday morning, Aug. 20, with Father Peter Schuster and Father Charles J. Quinn officiating. Interment was at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Jackson, with military rites by Jackson American Legion and VFW posts. Laurence died Sunday, Aug. 16, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Casket bearers were Verlin Bass, Al Fricke, Lloyd Clark, Brian Johnson, Vernon Bass, Curt Egeland, Richard Krueger and Dennis Frodermann. Honorary bearers were John Eckert, Bill Holmes, Harlo Handevidt, Jim Egeland, Cueball Smith and Donald Nielsen. Gift bearers were Chris Whisney, Jason Whisney, Travis Whisney and Michael Whisney. Lector was Roger Bass. Eucharistic minister was Duane Whisney. Ushers were James Drahota and Bill Roder. Music was provided by Leila Hendricks, organist, and Cissa Tusa, song leader. Laurence John Whisney was born on Dec. 20, 1932, in Jackson, the son of Lawrence and Theresa (Bezdicek) Whisney. He grew up on the family farm in Des Moines Township and went to District 11 country school until the eighth grade and was very fond of his teacher, Evelyn Williams. He was unable to complete high school as he was needed on the family farm, but later completed his GED. He continued to farm up to the time of his death. On Oct. 8, 1953, Laurence was united in marriage to Darlene Frodermann at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Jackson. In 1953, he joined the National Guard and went to Fort Leonard Wood and entered cooking school. He asked for active duty and went on to report to Fort Riley, Kan. He later deployed to Bremerhaven, Germany, where he served his country as a classified cook for 14 months. Following his discharge in 1957, he returned to farming and also worked for Midland Coop, Julians Bakery, as manager of the American Legion and finally, at Ag-Chem on the third-shift fab and weld until his retirement in 1997. He was an active member of Church of the Good Shepherd, where he was involved serving as a hospitality minister and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus. Larry was a past commander of the American Legion in Jackson. Larrys greatest loves were his family, farming and gardening. He was very proud of the accomplishments and achievements of his children and grandchildren and will always be remembered for the skills he taught them from carpentry to gardening and how to correctly pass in pinochle. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed bow hunting deer every fall with his sons and grandsons, while his summers were spent gardening, canning, preserving, tending his crops, and fishing with family and friends. He was a very generous man and shared his garden produce with family, friends and neighbors.
Laurence is survived by his wife of 55 years, Darlene; five sons, Gary (Angie), Don (Deb), Duane (Wendy) and Mark, all of Jackson, and Kevin (Patty) of Logan, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, Jessie, Ryan, Brent, Travis, Jason, Breanna, Chris, Michael, Rachel, Adam, Grant, Hayley, Di (Jason) Zitzman and Gonzalo Irisarri of Argentina; two great-grandchildren, Cody and Tyler; four sisters, May Ann (Lyle) Clark of Minneapolis, Janet (Dick) Dys of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Theresa (Dave) Krueger of Windom, and Kathy (Richard) Veenker of Windom.

Authorities Probe Death of Former Estherville Man
Authorities in Dakota County, Minn., are continuing the investigation into the death of a former Estherville man whose body was found in 18 inches of water in the Cannon River at the north city limits of Northfield, Minn., Saturday.
Dead is Douglas Richard Bezdicek, 24, who recently began working as a sports reporter for the Sun Newspapers, Minneapolis and St. Paul. Until recently he had been working for the Northfield News.
Bezdicek had been missing since Thursday morning when he disappeared after walking away from a one-car accident about two miles from where his body was found. Dakota County authorities had nothing further to add this morning.
Douglas was born Sept. 29, 1947, at Spirit Lake. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Milton Bezdicek of Estherville.
He graduated from Estherville High School in 1965 and from Carleton College in Northfield in 1969.
He worked for the Estherville Daily News as a general reporter for three years and after graduation from college he was employed by the Northfield Daily News.
A month ago he accepted employment as a sports writer for the Sun Newspapers in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church at Estherville.
Surviving are his parents and three brothers, Thomas of Washington, D.C., William and Pete at home; two sisters, Mrs. Linda Schmidt of Minneapolis and Rebecca at home; and his two grandmothers, Mrs. Fred Bezdicek of Lakefield, Minn., and Mrs. Allen Fienstra of Sibley.
Funeral services will be held t 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's church with rosary at 8 o'clock tonight at Fuhrman Funeral Home. Msgr. James H. Duhigg will officiate at funeral services. Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today and until time of the funeral.

Estherville - Services for R.J. (Pete) Bezdicek, 20, Estherville, were held Saturday morning at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Estherville with Father Albert O. Grendler officiating. Interment was in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Mr. Bezdicek was found dead in his trailer house at Green Acres Mobile Home Park, Estherville Thursday [May 1, 1980] evening.
Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, was in charge of arrangements.
The son of Joyce Bezdicek and Milton Bezdicek, he was born March 25, 1960, at Lakefield, Minn., and moved to Estherville with his family a short time later. He received his education in Estherville schools, graduating in 1978.
Mr. Bezdicek is survived by his mother, Joyce Bezdicek, Estherville; his father, Milton Bezdicek, Estherville; two brothers, Tom Bezdicek, Phoenix, Ariz., and William Bezdicek, Estherville; two sisters, Mrs. Linda Bezdicek Wirkkula and Mrs. Rebecca Kraninger, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Olive Bezdicek, Lakefield, Minn.; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Jennie Feenstra, Sibley.
