She enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing, crocheting, doing needlework, raising chickens and family picnics, but ballroom dancing was her favorite entertainment. Cyril passed away in 1995.
Survivors include two daughters, Leone (Donald ) Peterson of Brownsdale and Bonnie Maxfield of Owatonna; nine grandchildren, Kevin, Steven, Corrine, Colette, Jason, Harlan, Peggy, Stewart and Becky; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cyril; her parents; five sisters and six brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Dennis Tamke officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Memorial Gardens in Owatonna.

The character of the spa is the single most important factor to consider when beginning a project. Is it going to be hip and edgy, sophisticated and classy, authentic and minimal, or contextual toward its surroundings? Will it have a whimsical sense of discovery, clean axial organization, or simple sustainable character that stands on its own? Having an operator on board early helps the design concept progress rapidly and provides the design team with a better understanding of the ultimate goals.

Spa design has always been ahead of its time and has actually inspired design innovations in other parts of the hotel. Specific examples include the use of natural materials, larger guest bathrooms with natural light and an attention to sustainability. Trends we have seen that appear to be lasting are wellness, personalization, incorporating nature and being authentic.
A spa should flow well for both the guest and the staff. A guest should move easily from the reception to the locker rooms to the treatment areas. Servicing of the treatment areas and locker rooms with the large demand on linens should be discreet to the public. Service should be unseen by the guest.
There should always be ample storage areas for linens and products as well as a therapist lounge. If your staff is not happy, they will leave. It's difficult to find great therapists, but if you give them the space to do their job well you will have a successful spa.
Spa users want to be in a relaxing environment and separated from the fitness users. Providing a separate entry into the fitness center from the outside is one way to reduce the congestion at the spa reception area and simultaneously protect the quiet atmosphere of the spa.
Thermal experiences for spas are important to preserving the authentic experience of the spa. They mean a return to the original meaning of spa: health through water, which includes more than just steam, sauna and whirlpool. Shower experiences, ice machines and vitality pools help give a balance of hot and cold thermal areas for the ultimate therapeutic experience, which is great for a person's circulation.
Every hotel we do has a spa, and much of our work involves projects where there could be a stand-alone spa. This provides us with a unique opportunity to design something from the inside out\emdash where form follows function. It's less complex if the spa is located within the hotel tower footprint, but there is more creative freedom if it's a separate entity.
We find it interesting that many spa designers are interior designers for that reason\emdash creating interior space within a set boundary of a hotel footprint. As a spa architect, I am afforded the opportunity to create the architecture along with the interior layout and collaborate with WATG's interiors team to create a unified spa design.
WATG brings great value to our clients because our spas are designed by architects, not just interior designers. The number one reason spas fail in the industry is because they are not planned properly. Spa design requires a great deal of space planning and a thorough understanding of interior architecture.
Our design and philosophy at WATG strongly embraces the principle of contextual design. This allows us to be inspired by certain forms and shapes from the environment that you will want to incorporate into the layout. At the Golden Door Spa at the Boulders Resort we introduced kiva-shaped rooms inspired by the native Indians at key areas like reception, the co-ed lounge and yoga room to emphasize their importance within the spa.
My design inspirations come from the simplicity of the garden, a scene that evokes calmness or the beauty of a flower. Entry processions are my passion, and my goal is decompressing the guest for an incredible spa experience. I love to plan off of axial relationships, with focal points guiding the guest to several steps along the journey.
