solemn funeral mass was offered at Sacred Hearts' church on Wednesday at 10 a.
m., by the Rev. Valery P, Schuster, for the repose of the soul of his father,
Louis H. Schuster, 73, who died at a Madison hospital Sunday after a short
illness.
With Rev. Schuster as celebrant, the Rev. 0. McLaughlin, St.
Francis Seminary, was deacon; the Rev. J. Schultis, of Fond du Lac, sub-deacon;
the Rev. L. W. Keppler, master of ceremonies, and Wilfred Schuster, thurifer.
The Rev. G. A. Haeusler delivered the sermon.
Pallbearers were five
nephews: Frank Schuster, Edward R. Betlach, Emil Benisch, Frank Betlach, Joseph
A. Betlach; and Julius E. Krebs.
Mr. Schuster Is survived by his wife,
the former Mary Skala; 12 children, Rudolph, Lenora and Geraldine, at home;
Francis, Wenzel, Mrs. Edward H. (Dorothy) Callies, and Mrs. Reinold J.
(Antoinette) Klein, Sun Prairie; Louis and Mrs. Leslie (Mary) Fiscus, Madison;
Sister Valerian (Angela) OSB, Eau Claire; Wilfred, St. Francis Seminary, and
Rev. Valery, Milwaukee; 13 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Betlach,
Sun Prairie, and Mrs. Frank (Elizabeth) Benisch of Marshall.
Louis H.
Schuster was born in York Center on June 9, 1871, the son of Francis and
Antoinette Bedner Schuster, and spent most of his life in this vicinity. On
October 12, 1898 he was married to Mary Skala. He was a member of Holy Name
Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Besides the celebrants, the

and Paul's parish, Milwaukee; Rt. Rev. Msgr. A. Meyer, rector of St. Francis

Dries, Marshall; the Rev. A. V. Grace, Madison, and the Rev. Lawrence Jung, of

Following her early education in Madison, SD, she attended the College of St. Theresa in Winona, MN where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree. Following her graduation she spent four years teaching Science and Mathematics in Ashland, KY. An opportunity to return to Minnesota working at the University allowed Helen to pursue a Bachelor of Sciences in Medical Technology. When Dr. Leo T. Samuels was recruited from the University of Minnesota to head the Biochemistry Department at the University of Utah Medical School, it led Helen to transfer to the University of Utah. There Helen worked under Dr. Maxwell Wintrobe in the Department of Hematology. She worked there from 1944 until retirement in 1983 to St. George, UT. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Antionette M. Ashenbrucker and by a niece, Jane. She is survived by her brother, John J. Ashenbrucker (Patricia M.) of Kaukauna, WI; her nephews Joe Ashenbrucker and his children Cannon and Evelyn of Garbertville, CA and Steven Ashenbrucker (Gloria) Park Falls, WI. Helen has been a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and an active member of the St. George Catholic Church in St. George, UT. She is a silent humanitarian supporting many, many causes. Her life has been enriched by the many friendships she has developed through the years. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church, 259 W. 200 N., St. George, UT. Interment will be in the Ashenbrucker family plot in Sun Prairie, WI. In lieu of Flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society and to Hospice. Catholic Church in Marshall. She was very active in her church community and the
Colonial Club, where she had been an outreach worker for over 20 years.
Survivors include three daughters; Lynn (Alan) Taffel of Upper St. Clair, PA,
Lori (Thomas) McCarthy of Crossroads, WV, and Mary Jane Langer of Sun Prairie;
four sons, Jon of Madison, Darrell, Jr. (Caroline) of Marshall, David (Donna) of
Des Moines, IA, and Greg (Kari) of Marshall; 15 grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Theis of Sun Prairie; and a sister, Ellen
(Gerald) Reininger of Sun Prairie. She is further preceded in death by a
daughter, Jeannine. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 28, 1995 at 10:30
a.m. at the Hart-Vick Funeral Home, Marshall and at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's
Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call on
Thursday, April 27, 1995 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Helen touched many people's lives and will be greatly missed by her family and

in Capital Times. DarreLL J. Langer Sr., 62, rural Marshall, Clerk of the Town
of Medina for the past 38 years and a well known area farmer and business and
church leader, was found dead Sunday morning in a corn field on his farm. Deputy
Coroner Donald Scullion ruled cause of death to be from natural causes, probably
a coronary attack. According to County Sheriff's reports, Mr. Langer's body was
found at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday by a son, Darrell Langer Jr., and neighbors.
They had become worried when Mr. Langer did not return from his usual Sunday
walk through the fields on his farm. Mr. Langer was born in Marshall in 1909. He
was a director of the Farmers and Merchants State Bank at Waterloo and of
Wisconsin Dairies. He was a former member of the Marshall School Board. A member
of St. Mary's Catholic Church, he was a former member of the Church Council.
Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Theis, to whom he was married on Aug.
23, 1938; four sons, John, 3100 Lake Mendota Dr., Madison, Darrell Jr., Rt. 2,
Marshall, and David and Greg, both at home; four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Feutz
of Waterloo, Miss Laurie and Miss Lynn Langer, both of 909 E. Dayton St.,
Madison, and Miss Mary Jane Langer, at home; a sister, Mrs. Lucille Skalitzky of
Sun Prairie; and five grandchildren. Friends may call at the Hart Funeral Home,
Marshall from 4 p.m. today until time of services. The rosary will be recited
there at 8 tonight. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the
funeral home and at 10 in St. Mary's Church, Marshall, with the Rev. Archie

Biography: The following was written by Antoinette Schuster Klein, granddaughter to Antonie: "Antoinette Mary Betlach, my grandmother, was born in Cherma, Austria (should be Chermna, Bohemia), April 24, 1854. Her father, Joseph was a tavern keeper and baker. The bakery was at the back. Antoinette, heer mother Anna and brothers helped their father in both the tavern and bakery. I always wondered how she learned to handle dough so dexterously. She made kolaches, poppyseed bread, apple kuchen, cinnamon rolls and, oh so many good things. I used to watch her when I was a child and was utterly fascinated at the array of goodies she could bake in a morning. The smell was heavenly. She told me stories of her girlhood. She danced every night till dawn with the men who came to the tavern. It was a gathering place for the community and all the day's happenings were talked about. Her father, Joseph, was a jovial man who loved excitement and danced many a jig wnlivened by a beer or two. Antoinette also sang songs for the men. With her curly hair, brown eyes and her little five foot two frame, she was a petite little thing and happy with her life. Here is where Frank came into her life. A tall, thin blue-eyed boy who was barely 21 years old. He was a road builder and had put in two years of training with the army. The threat of war was always upon the country and young men were anxiously awaiting a summons to full-time service. Frank and Antoinette were married in 1876 and had a daughter whom they named Antoinettee but always called her Jenny. When she was born, war was imminent, so the young couple packed their simple belongings and set out for America with their tiny baby. My mother has grandmother's wedding shawl, her prayer book, her song book, a baby hood that little Jenny wore, and a handkerchief she brought with her to the land of promise. She sang in the choir at church and even when she was old, she sang songs of her native land. .... The voyage to America took six long weeks. The passengers were starving and many died. Grandpa and Grandma were so concerned over little Jenny as Grandma did not receive enough liquid to keep her milk. The little thing whined and cried most of the trip. The saddest thing was seeing the dead dumped into the ocean. My grandparents were strong peole and did survive the diet of watery soup. Near exhaustion when they reached America and with the help of relatives already here, they did get settled. They stayed with a brother." Note: They arrived in Waterloo, Wisconsin on 2 Dec 1877...
